your product is very interesting. What is the weight of the product?
A: The product roll (4'x10') weighs a little over 3 lbs.
Q: I want to use on the underside of the hood, and what is the heat rating for this applicataion and can it be painted? I need to paint it black, if so what is the procedure.
A: In regards to your question regarding heat rating, Low-E Insulation can withstand high temperatures but DO NOT put in direct contact with headers or mufflers.
As far as painting, we do not recommend painting the product. The surface of Low-E is 99% pure aluminum. This is what makes it an excellent heat shield.
Aluminum reflects or re-radiates radiant heat. When the product is painted the qualities of the aluminum are no longer present. Therefore the facing will take on the properties of whatever you have painted it with.
Q: Can I use your product as hood insulation?
A: Yes, Low-E can be attached under the hood. 3M or another high quality adhesive will usually work for installing the product.
